DP Open provides financial support for PacNW families
PacNW is excited to announce a new partnership with theDP Open, a charity golf tournament in Seattle started by a group of Universityof Washington soccer alumni who lost a teammate to sudden cardiac arrest in 2015.
Through a new program called “Soccership,” the DP Open will be donating a portion of the money they raise from the DP Open golf tournament to help PacNW families cover the cost of league fees, travel costs and gear.
DP Open and Nick of Time Foundation
The DP open has donated all proceeds from each annual tournamentto the Nick of Time Foundation, a local nonprofitstarted by Darla Varrenti after she lost her son Nick to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
Nick of Time Foundation focuses on raising awareness of SCA, connecting families impacted by SCA, and teaching kids CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Most importantly, it partners with local schools to screen young hearts to reduce the number of kids walking around with an undiagnosed heart condition.
Remembering Daniel Phelps
The co-founders of the DP Open, Adam Lang & Taylor Hoss, both played soccer with Daniel at UW. In fact, they were all in the same freshman class.
“Soccer had such a positive impact on all of our lives. From staying active to building friendships and learning how to work hard, have fun and persevere. It’s important to the DP Open community that we pass it forward by supporting families to help cover the cost to play to keep participation rates high in youth soccer. We couldn’t be prouder to partner with PacNW because we know it’s a move that would make Daniel proud,” Lang said.
Phelps was a hard-working player on the UW soccer team. He always won all the fitness drills, outworked everyone in the gym and always pushed others to perform. He played an attacking position, mainly right midfield or striker, and had clever feet and always liked to combine with teammates and score goals, Lang described.
The Seattle Times published a storyon July 17, sharing Phelps’ story and his impact on those around him.
“We are inspired by the incredible work the DP Open and Nick of Time Foundation are doing to raise awareness for SCA in the young. We appreciate their support for our families and are honored to amplify the important work they are doing,” said John Wilson, PacNW president.
PacNW is proud to partner with DP Open and its mission to raise money for the Nick of Time foundation and support PacNW families.
If the pandemic allows, the 4th annual DP Open will take place on Sept. 12 at Redmond Ridge Golf Course. Registration will go live in early August on DP Open’s website. Those interested in donating an auction item or sponsoring the tournament, please contact .
